Jyothika Sadanah-Saravanan (Punjabi: ਜ੍ਯੋਥਿਕਾ ਸਦਾਨਾਹ, born on 18 October 1978) is a former Indian film actress who predominantly appeared in Tamil films.Jyothika Sadanah also acted in a few Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi films. Jyothika Sadanah gained critical acclaim for her performances in Kushi, Perazhagan, Chandramukhi and Mozhi, winning one Filmfare and three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. Jyothika Sadanah was one of the most successful actresses in the Tamil film industry of her time.
Personal life
Jyothika was born to Chander Sadanah, a film producer, and Seema Sadanah, in Mumbai, India. Jyothika was born into a Punjabi family. Actress Nagma is her half sister. Jyothikacompleted her schooling in Learner's Academy, Mumbai. Jyothika later majored in Psychology at the Mithibai College in Mumbai. Jyothika also has a sister Roshini (born Radhika) and a brother Suraj, who is working as an assistant director for Priyadarshan.Jyothika married Tamil actor Surya Sivakumar on 11 September 2006, with whom she had acted in several films. The couple has a daughter, Diya, (born on August 10, 2007) and son Dev (born in June 7, 2010).
Career
Jyothika made her acting debut in the Hindi film Doli Saja Ke Rakhna with her co-star Akshaye Khanna, directed by Priyadarshan. Jyothika later ventured into the Tamil film industry. Jyothika first role was a cameo appearance in Vaali (1999), which starred Ajith Kumar and Simran. Later that year, she starred in Poovellam Kettuppar, in which she played the love interest of the protagonist, portrayed by her future husband Surya Sivakumar.A string of successful movies followed, among them Kushi, Dumm Dumm Dumm and Snegithiye. In 2003 she starred in Dhool with Vikram, Kaaka Kaaka with Saravanan Sivakumar and Thirumalai with Vijay, all of which did good business, Kaaka Kaaka in particular being one of the biggest hits of her career. In 2004, she acted in a double role in the critically acclaimed Perazhagan opposite Surya and received the Dinakaran Best Actress Award for the movie. In 2005, she acted in Manmadhan opposite Silambarasan and won accolades for her role. Jyothika most successful movie till date is the Rajinikanth starrer Chandramukhi 2005. Jyothika last films were Gautham Menon's Pachaikili Muthucharam and the critically acclaimed Mozhi, both in 2007. Jyothika roles in these two movies, as a negative character in the former (which she played for the first time) and as a deaf and mute in the latter earned her widespread appreciation. Jyothika was also the brand ambassador for RMKV silk sarees and a wardrobe hub in Chennai.. Jyothika appeared in Paragon Slippers ad.
Jyothika was awarded the Filmfare Best Tamil Actress Award for her role in Kushi. Jyothika also received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress for Perazhagan in 2004, Chandramukhi in 2005 and Mozhi in 2007. In a poll conducted by a popular magazine, Jyothika has been named in top 5 all time Tamil actresses. After her marriage, she left the film industry, but she still continues to do ad films and some work for TV.
